Math facts response

In RB we too give time tests for basic facts. We test addition, subtraction, multiplication, and for some students, division. I test addition for first quarter. I test subtraction for second quarter. I test multiplication through the nines for third and fourth quarter. If they finish the times facts, they go onto division. We do 40 problems in two minutes for multiplication. For subtraction and addition, I either do 40 problems in two minutes or 100 problems in five minutes. Even though I test addition and subtraction once a week during first semester and mult. and div. three times per week second semester, teachers in the upper grades still complain they don't know their facts. Help Question about math time tests!!

Help we would like to know how you all do math facts. In Ripon we give time tests for addition, subtraction, and multiplication thru 5. Student's are given 100 problems to solve in 4 minutes. Do you do time tests?
How long do you expect each problem to take?
Any other ideas to foster automaticity for math facts?
Thanks for letting us know.

Keeping skills current

A "new" idea we took from Harry Wong on classroom management also helps keep the students' skills current. We type up or copy various addition, subtraction, in & out boxes, rounding ETC.. for the students to do as they come in the morning. This way we have a quick check on the students who need more mastery, and it controls the morning chaos.

www.aplusmath.com
www.coolmath.com/parents
Hope that you guys get to check them out. The students really seem to enjoy the practice, and the parents are quite happy for an alternative to flash cards etc!!

Hello everyone
As I remember there was some interest in the coteaching pilot program Jessi and I are doing in Ripon this year. If you are interested we have put together a short powerpoint addressing this model. If you are interested let us know and we will forward it to you. Also, there is a great FREE math site we have been using to create homework sheets and bell ringers. It is mathfactcafe.com.

More United Streaming

G'day again, I just wanted to share a United Streaming link for those people working on habitats. There is a wealth of information in these little clips. They range from about 9 minutes to 12 minutes and my class really enjoyed the discussion that they presented us with. The link won't work if you don't have an account, but if you have an account with them you'll just have to sign in and it will take you straight there.
Hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year, this is just link winter back home!!
Cheers,
Neil
